Frequently Asked Questions

We welcome any questions you might have. Here are some of the Frequently Asked Questions we often get and answers. Cant find the answer to a question? Email or text us and we will add it to the list.

  1. What does it mean to be AKC S.A.F.E. certified and what does it mean to the customer?

The American Kennel Club (AKC) believes that grooming safety should be a top priority and recognizes the importance of proper grooming for the health, well-being, and overall comfort of dogs. The AKC S.A.F.E (Safety, Assurance, Fundamentals, Education) certification shows our commitment to upholding best practices in health and safety while grooming services.

  2. How often should I groom my dog?

Most dogs benefit from grooming every 4 - 6 weeks. In general, pets need their hair brushed, nails trimmed and ears cleaned on a regular basis to ensure their health and maintain their coat shiny.

  3. Won’t frequent bathing ruin my pet’s hair?

Not at all, if done properly. We use only the highest quality shampoos and conditioners that are made specifically for your pet. Pets have a lower ph than humans, therefore it is VERY important to use specialized pet products to maintain a healthy and shiny coat.

  4. Do I have to stay on a schedule?

We recommend clients stay on a 4 - 6 week schedule to maintain the health and appearance of their pets. Read our grooming recommendations here

  5. how quickly can I get an appointment?

We get booked quickly because we only do one dog at a time plus travel time in between. We are booked at least 5-7 days in advance and recommend you set up a regular grooming appointment schedule. Depending on the time of the year, we may be booked 1-2 weeks in advance.

  6. Can you clip or shave my double-coated breed?

We do not clip or shave double-coated breeds such as Labs, Golden Retrievers, Husky’s, Beagles, Pugs. It is not healthy or necessary to shave dogs short in the summertime. Actually, shaving dogs short can actually make them hotter, shed worse, have skin problems, expose them to too much sun, and more. The cycle of hair growing and shedding is set up to work perfectly for dogs and we do a disservice to dogs when we shave them and interrupt that cycle (unless, of course, there is a medical reason to do so.) The best thing for your double-coated breed to keep it comfortable is to have it bathed, brushed, and groomed every 4-6 weeks. Read more on our blog post Double Coat Breeds and Shaving.

  7. What types of payment do you accept?

We take cash, credit cards, Zelle, CashApp, and Venmo.

  8. Is there a cancellation policy?

We don’t have a cancelation policy. We understand that things come up and rely on our clients to give us 24 hours notice if they need to reschedule or cancel. We reserve time specifically for your pet; last-minute cancellations really impact us, and the other clients who are waiting for an appointment.

  9. Can I be in the van with you when you groom my dog?

In our experience, this is generally not a good idea. Most dogs and cats do much better without the owner present. When you are present during grooming, your dog will be focused on getting your attention and may not sit still making the grooming process dangerous and more time-consuming. Remember we work with sharp tools, the grooming should be a relaxing experience. On occasions, the dog’s owner will be called upon to help calm or hold the dog during certain parts of the service, but generally, the grooming should be a one-on-one experience between the dog and the groomer.

  10. Why aren’t prices listed on your website?

Pricing depends on size, weight, hair type, and frequency of grooming. Also, pricing varies within and between breeds. Some breeds can vary a lot in size, for example, some bichons are 9 pounds, while others are 20. All prices are estimates until the day of the grooming appointment, together with the groomer the price is finalized. Check out our mobile grooming services

  11. Why can’t you give me an exact price when I first contact you for an appointment?

If we have not yet met your dog, we will often give you a price range that we anticipate charging for the service you request. Once we arrive at your appointment, we can see things like the condition and length of your dog’s coat and the dog’s behavior to see if there are any factors that may make the grooming appointment take a bit longer than usual, and therefore cost a bit more.

  12. Do you groom large dogs?

Yes, Ricky specializes in large and xlarge dogs. The WoW Grooming Mobile van is equipped with special equipment to make grooming large dogs easier for both the dog and the groomer. The Ultra-Lift table is electric and lowers nearly all the way to the floor and can easily hold 250 pounds. The 3 Side Splash Tub is a full-size, low-cut tub that allows large dogs to walk right in from the grooming table. This is convenient for many large dogs, especially older large dogs since being picked up is uncomfortable.

  13. Can you de-mat my dog or cat rather than shaving it?

Perhaps. We have a lot of patience and skill for de-matting. We use proper equipment and products which helps but we will put your pet’s happiness and comfort first. We’re willing to try as long as it is pain-free and your pet will tolerate it. However, if your pet shows discomfort or stress, we will not continue. We will not demat your pet more than once rather than have it groomed regularly as it is cruel and painful. There will be a $25 extra charge for de-matting and shaving due to excessive matting as it takes a lot more time and product. Regular grooming (4-6 weeks) is important in order to avoid matting. Read our tips for preventing a matted coat here.

  14. Why does mobile grooming cost more than shop grooming?

Mobile grooming offers so many advantages to you and your pet, but it does cost a bit more than getting your dog groomed in a traditional shop. Since mobile grooming offers personalized, one-on-one service, we can only work on one dog at a time and service a limited number of dogs in one day. Mobile grooming is not a high-volume business, rather it is a premium service designed to reduce the stress of grooming on your dog and to be a convenience and time-saver for you. Check out the Why Mobile Pet Grooming page to see just a few of the many benefits of mobile grooming.

  15. Do you groom cats?

Yes, we do! Cats need grooming too. Most cats do fine for grooming, Rayza has a lot of experience grooming cats.

  16. How long will the groom take?

This can really vary, but generally, a basic service grooming package will take 45-120 minutes depending on the breed (think of the difference between bathing and drying a Chihuahua and a Golden Retriever!) and a haircut service will take between 80-120 minutes, again depending on the type of dog. We go with the dog’s flow and do not rush.

  17. Do you need to hook up to my electricity or water?

Nope! Our truck is fully self-contained with its own power and warm water supply. We do carry an extension cord as a backup for the power, but should not need to use it. Check out our state of the art vans here.

  18. I have two dogs that need grooming, can I have a discount? What offers do you have?

We understand a lot of people choose to have more than one furry friend and we welcome them all at WoW Grooming. We offer $5 off as a multiple pet discount. Clients who are still on the old pricing scale (prior to March 2022) do not qualify for the discount.

  19. Why are prices for puppies the same as adult dogs?

Puppy grooming takes more time and some training while the puppy gets accustomed to being groomed. It is very important for puppies to become familiar with the grooming process early, as this will make it easier when they get older. Puppy grooms are a work in progress as puppies are wiggly and unfamiliar with the process. This improves as the puppy becomes familiar with the process. COMING SOON… Ask about the “Pawsome Puppy Package” where we properly introduce your puppy to grooming and set train them for a lifetime of happy and stress-free grooming experiences.
