How Do I Prevent My Pet From Getting Fleas? There are several types of flea preventative products available. The most popular preventative product is a monthly topical solution that is applied between the fur on the back of your pet’s neck every 30 days. How Do I Get Rid Of Fleas In My Home? If there is an infestation at home, treat both the inside and outside the home. You can use a home flea spray, a fogger or call an exterminator. Since fleas hatch every 7-10 days for a 30 day cycle, you will need to re-treat the same areas three more times every 7-10 days to break the 30 day flea cycle. It is best to treat your house and outdoor areas before getting your pet groomed and taking them back into the home after grooming appointment. Vacuum all floors prior to home treatment and check with your professional exterminator to see when it is best to vacuum following treatment. If your pet sleeps in your bed, wash sheets and pillowcases in hot water and regular laundry detergent. Vacuum the mattress and consider buying new pillows.
